Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of neuraminidase by culturing Streptococcus sp. IID 6646 bacteria in a medium containing specific nitrogen source and carbon source, under nearly neutral conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Neuraminidase is produced by culturing neuraminidase-producing Streptococcus sp. ID 6646 bacteria in a medium containing 2-7%, pref. 4-6% of peptone, 0.4-1.5%, pref. 0.7-1.0% of heart extract, 0.1-0.3%, pref. 0.15-0.25% of lactose, and a proper amount of sodium carbonate and sodium phosphate to keep the initial pH of the medium between 7.0 and 7.5, at a temperature between 20 and 40°C, pref. 27 and 30°C, for 10-24 hours, pref. about 16 hours. The total amount of the above additives is ≥0.3%.
