Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp lighting apparatus, in which quantity of electricity in main circuit is detected from the voltage across a capacitor, whereby it is enabled to compensate deviation of the quantity of electricity in the main circuit, with no need of providing a smoothing capacitor.
CONSTITUTION: Charging of capacitor 10 is effected when switching element 5 is in its OFF-position. Here, charging current of capacitor 3 is of square wave. Voltage at the control terminal G of trigger element 6 is a partial voltage of capacitor 10 developed across resistance 16 plus a value proportional to the voltage of capacitor 3. For instance, when charging voltage of capacitor 3 is raised, voltage at the control terminal G is lowered. As the result, the time when difference between anode voltage and that of the control terminal G reaches 0.7 V is advanced, so that charging voltage of capacitor 3 is lowered. On the other hand, when voltage of capacitor 3 is lowering, voltage at the control terminal G is raised to compensate deviation in quantity of electricity in the main circuit.
