Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform concurrently denitrification and desulfurization simply and with high effficiency by the procedure in which NH3 is added to combuster exhaust gas containing NOx and SOx, and then brough into contact with solid catalyst capable of selectively reducing NOx even in an oxidation atmosphere and also of selectively oxidizing and absorbing SO2.
CONSTITUTION: NH3 as much as more than 0.8 times the concentration of NOx, e.g., approx. 0.8 to 1.5 times, is added to the exhaust gas from combuster containing NOx and SOx, and then the gas is brought into contact with a catalyst layer composed of oxides obtained by burning the carbonate of Co, Mn, Cu, or Fe under the condition of a temperature range from 320 to 360°C and a space volocity of 5000 to 10000 hr-1 to concurrently remove NOx and SOx. With this method, it is possible to lengthen the life of catalyst, reduce the number of exchange, and obviate the need for installing both dentrification apparatus and desulfurization apparatus.
