Abstract

PURPOSE: To dehydrate gel or paste which is not filtrated through usual method, by dehydrating the gel or paste through electroosmosis with anion exchange membrane arranged at anode side and/or cation exchange membrane at cathode side.
CONSTITUTION: When the material main body 5 to be dehydrated has negative charge, electricity is applied across a cathode 1 and an anode 2, hereby the main body 5 is drawn into the anion exchange membrane 3 side, on the contrary the water into the cation exchange membrane 4 side, and fair portion of water is taken into an cathodic chamber 6, a portion being dropped downward. Application of a small press. form both electrodes 6, 7 sides causes water content to decrease, consequently volume of the gel etc., or distance between both anion and cation exchange membranes decrease gradually, thus dehydration is accomplished. The pH of the gel or paste is adjusted to neutral or basic side when the gel or paste has weakly acidic group, and to neutral or acidic side when the gel or paste has weakly basic group.
