Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent seizure of a thrust plate on a thrust bearing face due to contact with each other by detecting an overload applied on the spindle in the thrust direction, which is united with the spindle.
CONSTITUTION: A spindle 2 is held in a gas bearing 1 including a thrust bearing. The thrust bearing consists of a fixed block and a slide block 11 which is in contact with the end face of the collar 8 and slides on a cover inner face 9 and its opening 10. The fixed block consists of the collar 8 and a plate 7 fixed on the bearing 1. A gas pasage 24 is so installed that its one opening communicates with a gas-pressure- variation detector 30 and the other end 29 opens to the contact face opposed to the fixed slide block 11. When an overload is applied on the spindle 2 in the thrust direction (a) to move the slide block 11, the detector 30 detects a pressure reduction at the opening end 29 of said passage 24.
