Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a small and light converter by covering an optical fiber with a flexible piezoelectric high polymer having an electrode. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is covered with a flexible piezoelectric high polymer 2 which is prepared by adding fine particles of piezoelectric ceramics to a thermoplastic resin such as polyvinyl chrolide. When a voltage is impressed upon an electrode 3 which is prepared by the plating of gold or copper, the fiber 1 is curved together with the piezoelectric high polymer 2 in accordance with the voltage impressed to vonvert the optical passage. Thus, it is possible to provide an optical passage converter of small size and weight which requires no mechanical element such as a moving coil and which has high responsibility.
