Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the adverse effect to the apparatus due to the increase of the load of combustion and to burn and remove the harmful or malodorous components in the exhaust gas in a snitable state, by equipping a cooler in the reactor for gas combustion and by suppressing the temperature in the reactor below a definite temperature.
CONSTITUTION: In the reactor for gas combustion having the catalyst packed beds 1A and 1B filled with the oxidation catalyst such as V2O5, NiO, etc., the cooler 6 is interposed. The exhaust gas containing harmful or malodorous components such as hydrocarbon, etc. is introduced through the feed line 3 for the raw material gas. The gas superheated by being burnt in the catalyst packed bed 1A of the first stage, is cooled appropriately at the cooler 6 and is burnt under a suitable condition in the catalyst packed bed 1B of the second stage, so that the harmful or malodorous hydrocarbon gases being contained are burnt and made harmless.
