Abstract

PURPOSE: A styrene resin composition wherein the combination use of a guanidine derivative cam lower the amount of a halogen flame retarder added and imparts high flame retardancy and impact strength without adverse effect on inherent characteristics.
CONSTITUTION: Side resin composition comprises (A) 100 parts by wt of a styrene resin, (B) 3W40 parts of a halogen-containing flame retarder of tetrabromobisphenol-A or hexanbromobenzene or others, and (C) 0.5W20 parts of a guanidine derivative selected from melamine, which is especially effective in impact strength, guanamine, guanidine, alkylguanadine, cyanoguanidine, guanylurea, and guanidine carbonate. Further the addition of 1W10 parts of auxiliary flame retarder such as antimony trioxide or zirconium dioxide increases the flame retardance without adverse effect on other properties.
