Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the load upon a photosensitive element cleaning device by retarding the rise of the voltage of cleaning polarity from the rise of the voltage of transfer polarity.
CONSTITUTION: Conductive transfer and earth rollers 2 and 3 are connected with a transfer power source 5 so that the bias voltage of the opposite (or transfer) polarity to that of a toner is impressed upon the roller 2 during transfer and so that the bias voltage of the same (or cleaning) polarity as that of the toner is impressed upon the roller 2 after the transfer. If interchange takes place from a voltage V1 of the transfer polarity to a voltage V2 of the cleaning polarity, the toner is returned to the photosensitive element in a manner to be concentrated at the first rotation portion of the roller 2 so that the cleaning device of the photosensitive element is overloaded to invite shortage of the cleaning effect. Thus, by retarding the rise of the voltage V2 from the rise of the voltage V1, the quantity of the toner to be returned to the photosensitive element is so adjusted to reduce the load upon the photosensitive element cleaning device.
