Abstract

PURPOSE: To set a driving potential, and to simlify a driver circuit, by making it possible to make display control with a driving signal with a binary potential only by setting the frequency of the driving signal supplied to an unselected common electrode to the a value 1/2n as high as of that the selected common electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A selectd segment electrode and unselected segment electrode both are supplied with mutually-out-of-phase alternating current signals A and B which have frequencies much higher than the answer frequency of a liquid crystal and binary potential (O, VO); and then, selected common electrode is supplied with AC signal C in phase with signal B, and an unselected common electrode is with AC signal D with has a frequency 1/2n (n is an integer) as high as that of signal C and binary potential (O, VQ). Therefore, voltage of waveforms E to H are applied to liquid crystals at the selected segment electrode, polymerization point between the unselected segment electrode and selected common electrode selected segment electrode, and polymerization point between the unselected segment electrode, and unselected common electrode.
