Abstract

PURPOSE: Both roll housing and choke have on their sides wedges of proper slant angles, which is capable of selective vertical motion for adjusting the clearance therebetweem, e.g., the clearance can be made larger for roll exchange, or the clearance can be made zero for rolling operation.
CONSTITUTION: For roll exchange, a direction control valve 25 in liquid pressure circuit is located at a-port, then a piston 16 in a liquid pressure cylinder 15 lowers and a related wedge 17 also lowers. The wedge 17 has a slant angle larger than the angle of friction at which self-looking occures. The liner 19 is so constructed that it can not move. Accordingly, when the wedge 17 lowers, the liner 19 is pulled toward block 2 as indicated by arrows to make a wider clearance between the liner 19 and choke. The reverse operation causes the wedge 17 to move upward until the clearance between the choke and the liner 19 becomes zero
