Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an aromatic dicarbamide, simply by heating an aromatic dicarboxylate or/and a polyester consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid as an acid component in the presence of urea and an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic dicarboxylate or/and a polyester consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, etc. are heated in the presence of urea and an alcohol, e.g. methanol, etc. at 80W130°C to give an aromatic dicarbamide, e.g. terephthalic acid diamide, etc. Various types of carbamates can be prepared together with aromatic dicarbamides depending on the type of alcohol used.
USE: Starting material for various types of high polymers, e.g. aromatic polyamides, etc., dyes, rubber antioxidants, etc
