CONSTITUTION: Original document 15 is illuminated by lamp, and one line component parallel with the direction (X direction) of auxiliary acanning is focused by lens 17 on CCD18. Concurrently, one line component parallel with the width direction (Y direction) of the document 15 is focused by lens 19 on CCD20, and the underside pattern of the document 15 is detected by CCD18, 20. Signal photo- electroconverted by image elements 211, 212... is transmitted to shift registers 22, 23, and timing start pulse is produced to transmit every one bit through output gate 24. CCD 18, 20 are controlled by controller 25, and micro-computer 26 determines paper size by output signal of CCD18, 20 so as to set the paper cassette into the work state.
