Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent gelation and make it polsible to prepare a carboxylic acid type polyester, by polymerizing a tri-or polyol and a tri-or polybasic acid anhydride industrially, using a large amount of a diol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A tri-or polyol, e.g. trimethylolpropane, pentacrythritol, etc. and (B) a tri-or polybasic acid anhydride, e.g. trimellitic acid anhydride, pyromellitic anhydride, etc. are incorporated with 20W70 equivalent % of a diol, e.g. ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, etc. and melt polymerized at about 130W200°C for 10W120 min. The amount of the acid anhydride is preferably about 0.7W1.3 moles per equivalent of the hydroxyl group of the starting material polyol
