Abstract
PURPOSE: To make possible controlling of traffic signal lights and judgement of untrafficable roads by providing a microprocessor and providing a multiplicity of vehicle detectors capable of always knowing the time until the reflected waves from road surface are received.
CONSTITUTION: The t'4 of the ultrasonic waves transmitted at t'0 varies within the predetermined range of ±α. Vehicle judgement threshold value is assumed to be β. Now, the time when the reflected waves from road surface are received, e.g., t'4, is stored in a specified area and the difference (a) between the time of the reflected waves of this time and t'4 are computed by a microprocessor. If this difference (a) is less than α, the reflected waves are judged to be the reflected waves from the road surface and the previously stored data t'4 is renewed. If (a) is larger than β, the waves are judged to be the reflected waves from a vehicle, and a vehicle detection signal is outputted.
