Abstract

PURPOSE: A rubber-modified polymer with multilayered structure that is composed of a rubber-like polymer and a vinylic unsaturated monomer with hydroxyl group on the side chain and gives excellent impact resistance to polyamides and polyesters.
CONSTITUTION: Said rubber-modified polymer is composed of (A) 20-95 parts by wt of a rubber-like polymer such as dienic or acrylic copolymer as the major polymer for underlayer and (B) 80-5 parts of a hard polymer bearing hydroxyl groups on the side chains that is obtained by the copolymerization of 2-40 wt% of a vinyl monomer with hydroxyl group and 98-60 wt% of other vinyl monomers copolymerizable with above monomer. The resulting polymer is blended with polyamides or polyesters in an amount of 3-50 wt% based on polyamide or ester. The rubber-modified polymer is prepared by the copolymerization of the monomer with hydroxyl group and other copolymerizable monomers in the presence of a rubber-like polymer that is formed by emulsion polymerization
