Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-molecular weight copolymer, by radical copolymerization of 2,4,4-trimethylpentene-1 with methyl acrylate or acrylonitrile.
CONSTITUTION: Polymerization of (A) 100 parts by wt. of 2,4,4-trimethylpentene- 1 and (B) 50W100 parts by wt. of methyl acrylate or acrylonitrile is carried out in the presence of preferably 0.1W3wt% based on the total monomer weight of a radical polymerization initiator. Azobisisobutyronitrile, benzoyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, etc. may be cited as the radical polymerization initiator. A chain transfer agent, e.g. n-dodecyl mercaptan, t-dodecyl mercaptan, etc. may be used as a molecular weight modifier.
