Abstract

PURPOSE: To automate the straightening work through effectively giving the tension, by quickly heating and cooling linear portion of the steel sheet depending on the thermal conduction within a narrow range, employing the input-heat-controllable- plasma-flame as the heat source, and by giving the internal buckling to the steel sheet according to the thermal expansion, so as to generate a tension after cooling.
CONSTITUTION: The plasma flame 6 linearly heats the steel sheet 1; this linear heating limited so as to make the width of heat distribution in the direction of breadth to be 2W4 times of sheet thickness (b); hereby, the temperature difference due to thermal conduction in the direction of thickness (b) is made as small as possible; the heating of the steel sheet is carried out under these conditions of heat input as stated here. Besides, the internal buckling is given to the sheet without causing the external buckling; the steel sheet just after heating is quickly cooled by water of a very little quantity, or a naturally cooled in the air. The steel sheet 1 as the outer shell of the vehicle structure can be adequately tensioned by heating in whichever direction of longitude or traverse, however, the simultaneous heating in both directions give much more effect. Since the heating is carried out so as not to cause the buckling deformation in the outer shell 1, the outer shell does not need restraint, so that the baking, the tensioning, and the straightening can be effectively carried out on the outer shell 1.
