Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an ion exchange resin with little diffusion of an alkali metal in a product alkali, obtd. by introducing sulfonic acid amido groups and carboxylic acid groups in a specific molar ratio into the outer layer of a specific fluorine-contg. polymeric substance.
CONSTITUTION: A polymeric substance having carbon to which sulfonyl and one or more fluorine are bonded, pref. a perfluoropolymer is reacted with a cpd. having one or more prim. or sec. amino groups at lowered, ordinary or elevated temp. to introduce (A) sulfonic acid amido groups and (B) carboxylic acid groups in the molar aratio of (A)/(A+B)=0.01W0.50 into the outer layer of the substance.
EFFECT: A cation exchange resin is obtd. which maintains electrolytic voltage in a rational range with sufficient current efficiency and is suitable for production of a diaphragm for electrolysis.
