Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a straight-chain hydrocarbon rich in alpha-olefins efficiently, by cracking a heavy oil in the presence of a nickel ore catalyst at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A heavy oil is cracked in the presence of a naturally occurring nickel ore catalyst at 500-600 deg.C, preferably 520-580 deg.C. The cracked product thus obtained is separated to give a straight-chain hydrocarbon rich in alpha-olefins. For instance, when a straight-chain hydrocarbon comprising 6-14C alpha-olefins is required, adsorption by Molecular Sieves in used. When a straight-chain hydrocarbon comprising 11-18C alpha-olefins is required, the urea adduct process is used. EFFECT:Since nickel ores are rich in the nature and can be gained cheaply, the catalytic activity in the system is maintained advantageously.
