Abstract
PURPOSE: To conduct protection of a motor in starting according to the overload capacity of the motor in operation by monitoring the overcurrent over a period including the starting time.
CONSTITUTION: A current transformer CT and a current relay Ry compose a circuit for instantaneous detection of starting current and overcurrent. During starting schedule time, even if the relay Ry should function, a timer T1 shorts a thermal relay Th to prevent it from operating. In this period, the relay Ry and a timer T3 check the duration of the starting current. On completion of starting, the relay Ry returns and the relay Th comes in operatable condition. After the set time set on the timer T1, a contact Ctt2 cannot function even if the relay Ry has operated, and the relay Th is always in operatable condition. Thus, a motor is properly protected only if the thermal relay Th has been set according to the overload capacity of the motor in operation.
