Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize thermal effect on the constituent material by fitting blades by the use of the electron beam welding method, in a built-up hob consisting of blades. PURPOSE:Blades 3 are fitted to grooves 2 provided on hob proper 1. Joints 4 are welded by an electron beam and thereby a hob is assembled. By narrowing the electron beam, the width of welding W can be reduced and a deeper welding can be obtained, so that the thermal effect on the constituent material, particularly thermophobic materials such as high-speed steel, can be reduced. The effect can be further increased when the hob proper and the blades are welded at both ends of the hob shaft by an electron beam via a collar of the same material as the hob proper.
