Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent chain reaction of fissile material due to its dissolving accident by providing lugs of material having higher melting point than bottom wall on the bottom wall of a low pressure coolant chamber and limiting the storage of the fissile material when an accident of melting a fuel assembly occurs.
CONSTITUTION: Quadrangnlar pyramid-like lugs 26 of material having higher melting point than material of the bottom wall 13 of the low pressure coolant chamber of a nuclear reactor are welded in a gridiron layout onto the upper surface of the bottom wall 13. Fissile material flown down onto the bottom wall 13 when an accident of melting a fuel assembly occurs is reserved in the valleys 27 among the lugs 26 to thereby melt the bottom wall 13 at the valley position to thus perforate the valley position to thereby cause the coolant to flow into the coolant chamber at high speed flow to cool the fissile material reserved locally so as to thus remove the melting capacity of the material in order to prevent the proparation of the accident of melting the reactor core.
