Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve blocking resistance of melamine particles and to prevent the drop of their mechanical properties through addition of polyvinyl chloride resin, by adsorbing a vinyl chloride monomer on the surface of finely melamine particles dispersed into water, followed by polymerization under heating.
CONSTITUTION: Melamine particles comprising not less than 90 wt.% of particles with particle diameters not more than 10 μ is dispersed into water. The atmosphere of the system is replaced with N2. A vinyl chloide monomer and a polymerization initiator, e.g., di-2-ethylhexylperoxydicarbonate, are added to the emulsion. A weight ratio of the melamine particles to the vinyl chloride monomer is preferably 5/95W95/5, and an amount of water is preferably two times as much as that of a total amount of the two material. The mixture is then heated up to 45W70°C to polymerize vinyl chloride into vinyl chloride risin which covers the surface of the melamine particles.
