Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a dye adsorbent capable of treating dyeing waste water cheaply and industrially by allowing an acidic aq. soln. of deacetylated chitin to be absorbed in cellulose powder and by carring out alkali treatment to insolubilize the chitin.
CONSTITUTION: An acidic aq. soln. of deacetylated chitin with an average MW of pref. 10000W1000000, more pref. 150000W600000 is regulated to a viscosity below 300 cps and allowed to be absorbed in cellulosic powder with an average fiber length above 30 μ by dipping or spraying. By treatment with an alkaline substance such as ammonia or an aq. soln. of caustic soda the deacetylated chitin is insolubilized to give a dye adsorbent. The amt. of the chitin absorbed is pref. 0.5W30. more pref. 1W20% to the amt. of the powder.
