Abstract

PURPOSE: To reasonably product an optical fiber tape, which can be prevented from having its optical fibers subjected to micro-bent phenomena due to an external force, by fixing and coating the optical fibers in the groove of the tape with the use of a special filling and coating material.
CONSTITUTION: A long tape 1, which is formed one or more longitudinal grooves 2, and optical fibers 3 are conveyed in one direction through respective rollers 6 so that the fibers 3 are introduced into the grooves 2. A filling and coating material 8 of such a liquid. semi-molten or molten state as is softer than the tape 1 and as will be solidified at a room termperature, is poured into the grooves 2 from an injector 7 and is heated and dried, if desired, so that the coating material 8 is solidified to fill and coat the grooves 2 with the fibers 3. As a result, the desired object for protecting the optical fibers and for holding the fixing property and the tape shape can be satisfied.
