Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a highly stereoregular α-olefin polymer, by using a catalyst system comprising a solid component consisting of a specific metallic halide, an electron donative compound, one or more organometallic compounds and one or more organoaluminum compounds.
CONSTITUTION: (Co)polymerization of an α-olefin or its mixture is carried out by using a catalyst system comprising (A) solid powder, wherein 0.1W20 wt.% calculated as Ti or V of a Ti or V halide and 0.01W5.0 moles per gram-atom of Ti or V of an electron donative organic compound, e.g. methyl benzoate, are supported on a Mg or Mn halide, (B) one or more types of organometallic compounds selected from formulas I and II (M1 is alkali metal; M2 is alkaline earth metal; R1, R2, and R3 are H or 1W20C hydrocarbon groups; R4 is 1W20C hydrocarbon group) in a molar amount of 0.1W1000 times that of Ti or V, and (C) one or more types of organoaluminum compounds selected from formulas III, IV, V, or VI: (X and X' are 1W20C hydrocarbon groups; Y and Z are H, halogen, 1W20C hydrocarbon, alkoxy or amido groups).
