Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A steroid derivative of formula I: (the dotted line between the corbon atoms at the 1-and 2- positions indicates the presence or absence of the double bond).
EXAMPLE: Hydrocortisone 17-isovalerate and prednisolone 17-isovalerate.
USE: Remedies for dermatoses, e.g. acute and chronic eczema, seborrhoeyc eczema, atopic dermatitis, having powerful prolonged, and local anti-inflammatory actions.
PROCESS: Hydrocortisone or prednisolone is reacted with a compound of formula II: (R is lower alkyl group) to form the corresponding 17α, 21-alkyl-orthovalerate, which is cleaved with an acid to give the compound of formula I.
