Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable one-pass, one-run welding process, providing high efficiency and good welding zone in vertical electrogas automatic welding, base material is attached with special back plates on its both sides, and a curved torch with a specific diameter wire is used while being vibrated with a specific frequency.
CONSTITUTION: Vertical plates 4a, 4b having 5 to 13mm narrow groove gap g is attached on tis entire back surface with fixed copper back plate 15 and on its top surface with water-cooled copper back plate 13 having shield nozzle 13a. Into the groove, a flat torch 14 having curvature (R=70 to 120mm) tip 14a is inserted, while feeding CO2 throgh nozzle 13a. A wire 10 with diameter of less than 2mm is pressingly curved and sent at an angle of θ2 (90±30 degree) to the direction of plate thickness. Welding is conducted while vibrating at frequency of 60 to 1000 cycles/min and amplitude of W within plate thickness t±2mm. The process renders droplet movable smoothly, providing one-pass, one-run welding of high efficiency and good weld which is heretofore unfeasible.
