Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the photgraphic substrate which is low in processing solution absorptivity, is good in adhesiveness to water-resistant film and does not give harm to photographic characteristic by using the specific cationic sizing agent as the internal sizing agent of raw materials. CONSTITUTION:The cationic sizing agent obtained by reacting aliphatic carboxylic acid (e.g., stearic acid, palmitic acid, toll oil fatty acid, etc.) of C8-30 (preferably C12-25) and polyhydric amine (preferably the one having 2 to 3 methylene groups between amino groups. E.g., diethylene triamine, amino dethyl ethanolamine, etc.) at the ratio at which amino groups become excess with respect to carboxyl groups is added at about 0.5 to 2wt% to pulp (absolute dry weight), which is then sheeted. It is equally satisfactory to prepare the abovementioned sizing agent by reacting carboxylic acid and amine then modifying the same with urea, maleic acid, etc. Much better results are obtained if this is combined with carboxyl modified polyacrylamide.
