Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure an effective replacement from plural units of disks to a single disk by using the order capable of the direct access to each sector plus the order capable of the indirect access with conversion of each sector of the magnetic disk face.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic disk face of large-capacity magnetic disk unit 1, which replaces plural units of small-capacity disks 9W12, is divided into plural parts. When the extension order is sent to the disk controller from CPU, an access is given directly to the sector address with no conversion of the sector address to carry out the order. While with transmission of the standard order to the disk controller, the unit number is read out and the sector address is converted to the sector address of the correspondent disk unit to carry out the order. In this way, an effective replacement is possible from plural units of disks to a single disk.
