Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength and frictional and abrasive wear characteristics of a spherical bearing by constructing an outer ring of double layers with steel back metal of high mechanical strength and bearing metal of superior frictional and abrasive wear characteristics and locally quenching the back metal to impart an elasticity to the back metal. CONSTITUTION:There are formed a through hole 11 for inserting a shaft 2 at the center of an inner ring 1 and a raised spherical surface 12 on the outer peripheral surface of the inner ring 1 of a spherical bearing. The outer ring 1 for internally holding the inner ring 1 is constructed with a steel back metal 41 and a copper bearing metal 42 lined inside the back metal 41, which metal 42 is formed with a recess spherical surface 43 for holding the inner ring 1 opposite to the raised spherical surface 12 of the inner ring 1 on the inner peripheral surface. A slit 5 is also provided through the thick outer ring 4. The metal 42 is lined on the inside of the back metal 41 by means of a casting process. The back metal 41 is locally quenched from the outer peripheral surface thereof to thereby impart an elasticity thereto and a coaxial compressive stress thereto.
