Abstract
PURPOSE: AN adsorbed by inorganic porous body is irradiated with ionizing radiation to form PAN complex inorganic body, which is then heat treated under oxidation atomosphere, then high temperature non-oxygen atomoshere. The process thus produces heat resistant complex body having semiconductive and catalytic properties.
CONSTITUTION: AN is adsorbed by porous inorganic body such as silica gel under vacuum. Then, ionizing radiation is irradiated under vacuum or innert gas atomosphere to polymerize AN to form complex body of PAN and inorganic body. The formed complex body is heated at 160 to 300°C in air for 2 to 30 hours, then at 300 to 500°C in N2 gas flow for 1/4 to 4 hours. This results in thermal decomposition of PAN, providing heat resistant property, catalytic activity and semiconducting character because of pyridine ring formed on the surface.
