Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to use an image holding member for a long period, without deteriorating the characteristics of the same, by always exposing the lubricant, which is contained in the surface of the image holding member, to the surface in an effective manner by means of polishing means.
CONSTITUTION: When the surface layer of an image holding member such as a photoconductive layer or an insulating layer is to be formed, it is impregnated with a lubricant. As this lubricant, a substance which exhibts an excellent lubricating property with a developing agent is used. An abutment polishing member and a polishing agent are contained in a developing agent thereby to provide polishing means. As a result, the lubricant can always be exposed to the surface with respect to the cleaning operation of the image holding member.
