Abstract
PURPOSE: To control the quantity of water for a vertical Francis water wheel, keep its rotational frequency constant and reduce the size and cost of the water wheel, by integrating a speed governor therewith.
CONSTITUTION: When a water wheel runner 1 is rotated by the flow of water introduced through the openings 10 of sleeves 5 located at the peripheral part of a casing 3, a pendulum 6 attached to the upper part of a rotary shaft 2 is revolved and opened by the centrifugal force. As a result, the sleeves 5 are elevated through a hanger block 7, a hanger sleeve 8 and a rod 9 which are coupled to the pendulum, thereby increasing the flow rate of the introduced water. Therefore, the rotational frequency of the runner 1 rises. When said rotational frequency has exceeded a prescribed value, the pendulum 6 is opened further so that the sleeves 5 and their openings 10 are pulled up. This results in reducing the flow rate of the introduced water and the rotational frequency of the runner 1. The rotational frequency of an electric generator 14 is thus maintained at a set level.
