Abstract

PURPOSE: To make sprayed refractory layer join strongly to base refractories, by spraying refractory material, which is different in properties from the base refractories, to the damaged part of refractory lining of a furnace etc. in order to make the sprayed material react with the base refractories.
CONSTITUTION: When the refractory lining of a furnace such as a steel-making furnace or heating furnace is damaged, refractory material is sprayed to the damaged part in order to repair it. In that case, if the base refractories of the furnace is SiO2-Al2O3 type acidic refractories, MgO-CaO type basic refractory material is sprayed. The reverse is also true. Sprayed layer thus constructed joins firmly to the base refractories without peeling so that its service life is remarkably increased because acidic and basic refractory materials react with each other and stick closely to each other.
