Abstract
PURPOSE: To save energy and cost of storage or transportation of hydrocarbon gas, by forming a hydrate in the presence of an aliphatic amine under mild conditions in storage or transportation of hydrocarbon gas composed mainly of methane or ethane.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrocarbon gas containing methane or ethane as a main component (e.g. natural gas produced from an oil well or a gas well, etc.) is brought into contact with water in the presence of an aliphatic amine, to form a hydrate of said gas. In this state said gas is stored or transported. The hydration temperature is below 50°C and the pressure is below 50 kg/cm2G. Said gas can be easily recovered at higher temperature and lower pressure than the conditions of forming the hydrate. n-Propylamine, isobutylamine, etc. is preferable as the aliphatic amine, and the amount used is about 0.1W2- wt.% based on water.
