Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent decrease in mechanical strength of sintered product due to contamination of the sintered product with lubricant which has been mixed with raw material, by, in sintering Al-Si green compact, sintering the presintered green compact in a vessel provided with a porous gas-absorbing material.
CONSTITUTION: Plural Al-Si green compacts 1 mixed with a lubricant such as wax are placed in a tray 2 made of stainless steel. The tray 2 is run through a presintering apparatus consisting of an introductory zone, a presintering zone, and a cooling zone, where it is presintered at about 400°C. In that case, the lubricant, or wax, is once vaporized, then adheres to the green compacts 1 or to the surface of the tray 2 while the tray passing through the cooling zone. The presintered material 101 having come out of the presintering apparatus is placed in a sintering tray 102. The tray 102 is made of stainless steel, comprising a saucer 102a and a lid 102b, and is provided with a porous ceramic board 109 laid on it. The tray 102 is sealed with the lid 102b. When it is heated in the sintering apparatus, the lubricant adhered to the green compact is vaporized and is absorbed by the ceramic board 19. The sintered Al-Si product possesses excellent mechanical strength without being contaminated with lubricant.
