Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare D-arabinitol by culturing a specific microbial capable of assimilating bydrocarbons available at low cost, and separable from the cultured medium without difficulty.
CONSTITUTION: Microbials belonging to Pichia genus and capable of assimilating hydrocarbons to D-arabinitol, (e.g. Pichia ohmeri m3-2 separated from the cultured product obtained by culturing microbials having essentially no hydrocarbon assimilability, e.g. Pichia ohmeri No.230 in a medium containing glucose) are cultured in a medium containing hydrocarbons (e.g. paraffin, olefin, gasoline, crude oil, etc.) as main carbon source, at 20W40°C and pH3W7, for 1W10 days, and the accumulated D-arabinitol is separated from the medium.
