Abstract

PURPOSE: In O3 generation by silent discharge with non-discharge period reduced, a reactor is inserted in series between an a.c. power and a silent discharge system to provide an O3 generator having a drastically improved power factor.
CONSTITUTION: A series reactor 9 is inserted between the power source 5 and the silent discharge electrode system 5. The reactor 9 feeds a voltage higher than the power source voltage V to the load and increases power factor. Experiments on the power factor compensation efficiency by the reactor 9 resulted in a drastically improved power factor through the inductance Ls set to an adequate range. If such reactor compensation is not conducted, power factor is as low as 30%. Therefore, such reactor compensation is very effective in this kind of device having silent discharge system 5. The reason is as show in (c) in the figure, the load current I is off only during non-discharging period and the shift from voltage can be also eliminated.
