Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable exchange of fuel rods in a fuel assembly by forming the fuel rod top end stopper of an upper tie plate with exchange fuel rod insert holes larger than normal insert holes.
CONSTITUTION: An upper tie plate 4 is formed with holes 7 for insertion of top end stopper 2 of standard fuel rods 1 and with exchange fuel rod insert holes 8 having a diameter large enough for standard fuel rods 1 to pass through. The standard fuel rod 1b needing to be exchanged for the reuse of the fuel assembly is arranged in the insert hole 8 and supported between the upper tie plate 4 and a lower tie plate 5 by fitting a spring 6 to the end stopper 2 and fitting an exchange fuel rod hold metal 9. The fuel rod 1b can be removed through the hole 8 and replaced by a new fuel rod as needed.
