Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the weight and the cost of a disc brake by constituting same such that backing plates for an inner pad and an outer pad are constituted by a pair of branch sections which are integral with a body of the brake and are slidably placed on arm sections.

CONSTITUTION: During a braking operation, an inner pad 17 which is integral with a first backing plate 18 and an outer pad 23 which is integral with a second backing plate 24 hold a rotor 13 therebetween and are slightly rotated together with the rotor 13 so that a shoulder 22' of the first backing plate 18 and a body 25 of the second backing plate 24 are engaged with a first section 15' of an arm 14' and a second section 16 of another arm 14, respectively, whereupon the inner pad 17 thus trails while the outer pad 23 leads. Accordingly, respective torque moments in a direction of rotation of the rotor 13 around mounting holes 31, 32 act on the arm section 14 to push up and push down a fixed support 11. Thus, both of the torque moments offset each other to thereby eliminate a load applied to the fixed support, thereby eliminating deterioration of performances of the brake due to a deformation of the support 11.
