Abstract

PURPOSE: To decompose pyridine used in the chemical industry or experiments as a basic solvent with a high efficiency without causing poisoning effect on catalysts and pollution, by using a mixture of pyridine with a specific amount or more of water in the presence of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of pyridine and 50wt.% or more of water is thermally decomposed in the presence of at least a catalyst selected from iron, nickel or their alloy, or their oxides to change the nitrogen atom in pyridine into non-pollution nitrogen gas efficiently.
