Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a display unit, which emphasizes picture elements with arbitrary colors, by providing an area disignation equipment, a detector of the maximum value and the minimum value of a density range, and an address controller in the colored picture dispaly unit.

CONSTITUTION: Start point coordinates m, n and area width k, 1 in an arbitrary square area in refresh memory 2 where the density value of each picture element is stored are given to address register 3 and ΔX, ΔY register 4 by signal line 20. Timing controller 5 calculates the maximum value and the minimum value of a density value of the picture element in the square area and stores them in maximum value, minimum value detector 6. Controller 5 reads out successively values stored in detector 6 and inputs them to address controller 7. Controller 7 converts density values by a prescribed operation and inputs the converted result to a register. Controller 5 reads out picture elements in memory 2 and detects whether the picture element is within the area or not and sends the result to controller 7 through signal line 51. If the picture element is within the designated area, controller 7 sends the converted density value to display unit 1; and otherwise, controller 7 density value to display unit 1 through color converter 8 and D/A converter 9 as it is.
