Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the protective level by connecting first and second non-linear resistive elements in series, adopting a cylindrical form for one of the non-lenear resistive elements and providing a discharge gap inside the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: First and second non-linear resistive elements 1 and 2 are connected in series, and a discharge gap unit 3 is provided in parallel with the second non- linear resistive element 2. The first non-linear resistive element 1 is formed by stacking disc-like elements, the second non-linear resistive element 2 has a cylindrical form, and a discharge gap unit 3 is provided inside the element 2. Thus, while the limit voltage corresponding to the nominal discharge current i2 is V3 in the case of absence of the discharge gap unit 3, upon reaching of a constant value by the terminal voltage across the second non-linear resistive element 2 the discharge gap 3 is shunted by discharge, thus permitting reduction of the limit voltage to V2 for reducing the protection level.
