Abstract

PURPOSE: To restrict the blackening of bulb wall near electrodes and improve efficiency by fitting at the ends of a fluorescent lamp bulb a pair of triple coil filaments coated with an electrom emissive substance and filling the bulb with a specified rare gas mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A straight tubular glass bulb 1 having outside diameter of 27W31 mm is lined with a fluorescent material film 2, and the ends of the bulb 1 are fitted with triple coil filaments 3 and sealed with caps 4. The bulb 1 is filled with mercury vapor and, as a starter gas, with a rare gas mixture having a thermal conductivity smaller than that of argon. The filament 3 is formed by winding an auxiliary tungsten wire 6 of a diameter d2 around a main tungsten wire 5 of a diameter d1 to form a primary coil 7, winding the primary coil 7, into a long secondary coil 8, and coating the latter with an electron emissive carbonate.
