Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a graphite roll of long service life which never injures products, and is used for heat treatment of material described in the title at high and in an oxidizing atmosphere. The graphite roll is made by heating a graphite roll having been impregnated with an aq. soln. of aluminum phosphate with specified molar ratio of Al2O32 to P2O5.
CONSTITUTION: The graphite roll of the present invention is made by heating the roll after impregnation in its pore with 20W60 wt. % aq. slon. of aluminum phosphate with molar ratio Al2O3/P2O5 of 1 : 3W6. Heating of the graphite roll impregnated with aluminum phosphate will first remove admixed water, then constitution water from the phosphate, followed by hardening of phosphate and by bridge formation between Al2O3 and P2O5 to produce network structure of Al and P in the pore of the graphite. After heating and hardening, the content of aluminum phosphate becomes 5 wt. % or more. Sliding contact of the roll with silicon steel plate, which is attached with basic alkali metal cpd. such as K2CO3, at high temp. in oxidizing atmosphere attacks scarcely the material being treated.
