Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the number of bits and the data rate, by reducing the required time for elevation angle scanning, through the selection of the antenna beam width and gain with the azimuth. CONSTITUTION:In the one or two dimensional phase scanning array radar unit which performs electronic scanning toward elevation angle and mechanical revolution or electronic scanning toward azimuth, the antenna beam width radiated is varied with the scanned elevation angle. Although the number of steps for selection of the beam width and gain, and the beam width ratio in each step are arbitrary, high speed scanning can sufficiently be made by taking several to several tens of times at a maximum.
