Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily and safely replace a rotary part seal and a stationary part seal for a rotary plug on the sliding surface of a shield plug of a fast breeder.
CONSTITUTION: The rotary plug 5 is placed on a shoulder A of the shield plug 3. The shield plug 3 consists of a main body 3 and rings 31, 32, which are sealed up to one another by stationary O-rings 11. An elastomer seal 10 is provided between the ring 32 and the rotary plug 5. A metal member 15 is provided under another shoulder B of the shield plug 3. A system 16 for supplying inert gas to the metal member 15 is provided. The elastomer seal 10 can be safely replaced because the leakage of cover gas is prevented by blowing the inert gas to the metal member 15 through the supply system 16. To replace the stationary O-rings 11, a seal 20 is fitted outside the metal member 15 to raise the safety and the ring 31 is then removed.
