Abstract
PURPOSE: To assign the read format of a recording medium such as a slip easily and accurately by forming a frame indicating the read region of a recording medium along measure printed in a drop-out color and by changing the size of this frame.
CONSTITUTION: At the time when an optical character reader reads a recording medium with handwrittern-character read regions 1... and type-character region 2 provided to the fixed position of slip 3, read format assignment medium 4 is used which has measure 5 printed in a drop-out color and frames 1a and 2a indicating read region 1 and type character region 2 of slip 3 entered along measure 5. Then, those frames 1a and 2a are made different in size to distinguish forms of characters in the read region, and an optical scan on this assignment medium 4 is attained to discriminate the read format as to read regions 1 ... type character read regions 2 ... of slip 3.
